How keywords to be placed; some 'On-page' seo strategy

Postby asha » Wed Dec 10, 2008 1:00 am

Just got this recent information on how SEO strategy for the following onpage SEO tasks set

Keyword in URL - The URL or web page address should have the keyword in it. As an SEO strategy the keyword in the first position is best, the keyword in the second position is second best and so on.

Keyword in domain name - This is similar to the keyword in URL above; however, there is a unique feature which search engine optimization (SEO) should account for. Within Google ranking, the preferred method for indicating a space is by the use of a hyphen. While strategic SEO placement of one or two hyphens is good, use of more than four hyphens is bad.

Keyword in title tag - This is an obvious SEO technique. The SEO strategy to follow in this case is to position the keyword near the start of the title tag. Also the title tag should be less than 60 characters long with no embedded special characters.
Inbound link anchor text - Anchor text is the phrase that users click on to reach a web page. For SEO purposes the anchor text must the optimized keyword.

Good points Asha! Some points to add on this would be H tags which is the second most important aspect after the Meta Tags.

H Tags - Each page should have a unique title as an H1 tag comprising of keywords picked from those pages. The sub headings can go as H2 and so on. It is very important that we have a title for H1 tag not less than 2 keywords.

Interlinking - It is not worth the effort to have interlinking if there are not much content on pages as just interlinking keywords to index page will not help it rank better

Bold Keywords- Another technique to have your keywords ranked better is to make them bold as robots have a tendency to pick up these keywords but make sure that it is a an important term for that page.
