I agree that this is pretty interesting... and is big news now.
Here is the latest statement from Bing.
http://searchengineland.com/bing-we-do- ... riod-63388Everyone should understand that they are not stealing or dipping into Google algo. What Bing are doing to enhance user experience - who can blame them - is grabbing search terms and results from Google for searches within IE and adding to their indexes if it seems relevant. It uses these results to improve its own search quality...effectively learning from what people are searching for and clicking on. They are not just replicating results.
What surprises me is Google's emotional spin on this..... I understand defending their search results but the emotion, spin and timing (releasing the results from last year just before an event round table with bing) seems quite un-Google like. After all didn't Places start off pulling from Yellow Pages.... and surely they are using Google Analytics and domain registration data to improve user experience, also didn't they strike a deal with ISP's recently to mine more data in internet usage OUTSIDE of the search arena.
I am NOT complaining, just pointing out that in today's world everyone leverages data from ANY source they can get hold of. The big G are light years ahead in all online aspects and really don't need to get so upset IMHO.... If it bothers you so much, just buy them.

Interesting times.
