One of the key things to determine before setting up a blog is identifying the mode of setting up. i.e.
a.) as a subdomain blog.domain.com or
b.) as a subfolder domain.com/blog

Generally speaking sub-folderis always better, any weight it receives automatically goes to the main domain.

As a sub-domain, it is looked at as a regular domain, so it will be required to bring in it's own inbound links
