ABC of interlinking

Postby asha » Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:18 am

We all know that how crucial interlinking is in framing on page SEO strategy. As the name implies interlinking is simply how we link to our inner pages under our domain. The purpose of interlinking is to increase our keyword density and thereby improve search engine rankings. Interlinking also helps the search engine bots navigate our website and evaluate it in a pragmatic manner, based on the keywords and phrases we use as anchor texts.
Strictly speaking a website has four types of links: Navigation text links, Breadcrumb links, Subject area links and Individual page links
Navigation text links: We can link to our ‘Offshore Web Services’ page by using the anchor text offshore web services.
Breadcrumb navigational links appear at the top of the page having categories and subcategories. It looks like this Offshore IT Services >> Web Development >> Web Hosting. All the terms in this breadcrumb navigation contain relevant keywords.
Subject area links are relevant when our site has information on varied subjects. We can use those subjects as anchor text and amplify link-based SEO weightage. For example an internet marketing company can have search engine optimization a separate section and then link to that section from various pages with search engine optimization as anchor text.
Individual page links are the most important links w.r.t interlinking. Those links are directly linked to the pages. This could be our main navigation pages directed from our inner pages, or some support pages that is not included in the main navigation scheme but provide slices of information as and when needed.

Requires clarification.

If we are interlinking pages to the same domain what difference can it make if we interlink like :-

1. Giving only page name like "testimonials.php" or "../testimonials.php"

2. Giving path with URL like "http://www.yourdomain.com/testimonials.php"

Can the Domain name get SEO weightage if we use the 2nd method Or will both be treated same by the crawlers?
