Lessons I learnt from the Social Network

Have any of you watched Social Networks?
I watched it last week and I am totally psyched about it. It’s awesome.

Here is a not so flattering review of the movie
http://www.allbusiness.com/population-d ... 625-1.html

It is supposedly a movie about how Facebook was born. Previously known as the Facemash, the site was developed by Mark Zuckerberg Now Mark Zuckerberg developed Facemash as a revenge or something to get over the fact that his girlfriend dumped him.

I would have also dumped him, if the character portrayal is true, because he was such a jerk.

The cool part is that he developed the sight while drunk, in a few hours and the site got 20,000 hits in 2 hrs.

That is mind blowing.

What did I learn ?
1. People love to know about people they know
2. People trust the advice of people they know
3. Things go viral, if and only if, the offer is really good (like say a FREE day at the spa or Get an IPOD Free by Jiffy) or if it is a recommendation from a friend, or it has something which will make me look good and give me lots of leverage (eg: top 10 tricks to design a compelling website which your clients would love)
4. True success is not money - The founder of napster made a lot and lost a lot, he was into drugs and women (which isn't bad), but he was looking for fulfillment in the wrong places.
5. Love what you do - Success will follow - It's not the other way around. If you are passionate, if you are creative, if you are giving your work your best shot, it shows. Period.
6. Social Marketing / Media as I had always predicted is the future. People have been and always will listen to their friends. They are emotional, we all are. We buy something or use some service, not because it is the best, but because we trust or connect with the service provider. Take one of our clients who was into Real Estate and we were preparing tweets for him. I just loved the integrity, passion and care this guy had. It was very very easy to write for him because he was genuine. He truly cared for his clients and went the extra mile to do whatever it takes to help them. Techwyse is blessed to have all clients which fall into this category. Each client is unique and fun and transparent.

There whose weresome. I could go and on, but go watch the movie yourself. It will change the way you think about Social Media, Internet Marketing and give you a purpose in life.
