Google say speed more of a factor in 2010

Postby jondyer » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:53 am

Matt Cutts has recently discussed how speed will be a more important factor in organic ranking and adwords quality score.

Here is a blog + video about it - http://searchengineland.com/site-speed- ... ctor-29793

And here is a link to the google speed resource area http://code.google.com/speed/ This includes coding tips and a js library for improved page loading.

Really advisable to get ahead of the curve here because Google are clearly stating that they will reward faster sites (both with organic ranking and adwords cost) because they provide improved user experience.

Cheers,
Jon

Nice find Jon! As long as companies are building sites in an optimal way with strong coding standards then the best sites will be rewarded! Another step in the right direction for the worlds leading search engine!

Google says they want searching to be as fast as flipping through a magazine. Faster page load time is crucial for every site's success. If you make faster your page load time you can often see positive results including increased page rankings that will lead to more visitors over time. So use external files and smaller images and see what happens.

Thanks Jon ! It's great to go through the videos.

Here Matt Cutts suggest to install

Please make sure that you've installed before installing Page Speed.

These are firefox add-ons and it will give a detailed report on which or what are the things that make the loading delay. It can be css, images or programming logic.

Combined effort of PM's, Programmer's and Designers can contribute much to the loading issues, infact all these areas need to be identified and tackled before project starts.

I think this is a good move by google.
It will force or try to force designers / developers to write clean, unbloated code and help to push better adherence to development standards

Colin, is there a way to get a list of .edu and .org sites with a good PR.

Here is what I am doing right now:
1. Installed SEOQuake plugin for Firefox
2. Search for .edu sites using google's advanced search feature.
3. Sort by PR

I am not really happy with this approach. Please suggest any new ideas.

I have found another trick to use SEOQuake to get good forums.
1. Search for forum in niche (I used google search) - "niche name + forum"
2. Sort by PR
3. Review good forums
4. Click throught to any post on the forum
5. Identify what the replies thread is

6. Run an advanced search in Google
7. Sort results by PR
8. Post in thread which has high PR
This approach helps me identify good active threads, good PR, better click troughs.
