I am inclined to believe that once we change the content and google spiders revisit our website they will reevaluate our page for determining how relevant the content is for the mentioned topic.
Here are a few things I found:
If you change the content - then sometimes your website loses its position in the search engine. There is the google dance or google re-evaluting your content.
Any changes to the content, title, alt tags, image names, H tags - will have a positive or negative impact on our rankings (based on how we perform these tasks)
This is one of the major reasons why 99% of our websites have shown jaw dropping results after clearing Onpage optimization. Simple things have a great impact.
So yes, if you change the content make sure
1) it is relevant to your website and / keyword
2) does not exceed the keyword density (2% - 4%)
3) Use LSI keywords - This was one I ignored till I experienced some mind blowing results. Just adding LSI keywords, I got first page rankings for a 3 page website, shabbily put up. LSI keywords are similar words (for eg: car is similar to maruti, honda etc - all are cars)
