Meebo - Instant Messaging made easy

Have you ever ended up in a situation where you want to send an instant message from a computer using your favorite instant messenger, but only to find it missing? Gone are those days thanks to http://www.meebo.com Meebo is a free online instant messaging service that helps you to do instant messaging via your browser. Once you create a meebo id you can setup all your instant messaging services such as yahoo, msn, google talk, aol etc within your meebo account. This helps you to have a globally accessible instant messaging facility.

MeeboME is widget offered by meebo which enables you to display a chat feature on your website through which visitors can chat with you online. All you need to do is log on to your meebo id and kep the browser window open. Once a visitor comes and messages, the message will be displayed inside your meebo window and you can then interact with him.
With MeeboME widget you need not wait for a visitor to chat through the chat widget. As soon as a visitor comes to the website you can see him as a guest inside you meebo chat client and initiate a chat. Of course you will need to monitor your meebo window at all times to see if a visitor has come or not as it doesn’t give an alert. Also another thing to note is, the chat initiated by you maybe only noticed by the visitor if the widget is placed in a noticeable area of the website and he sees your message coming in.

Since Meebo is an online application, you need to keep the browser window open to receive chats from website visitors. If the window is in minimized mode, the only way of knowing if a chat has come is by the change it the title of the minimized window with the name of the visitor and the instant message he has sent, which will keep on blinking.

All said and done this is great online tool and I think you guys should register and start using Meebo. As for webmasters Meebome is a great widget for live online support.

Good News! The MeeboMe widget can be controlled via desktop IM Client Pigdin (http://www.pidgin.im/ ). This means no more do you need to be bound to a browser for chatting with website visitors. All you need is download the pidgin IM client configure the meebo account and you are set to go. You can refer this article for setting up MeeboMe in Pigdin IM. http://libraryvoice.com/archives/2007/0 ... tter-cups/

With this facility MeeboMe widget is a handy one whereby you just need to put it on your website and then get chat alerts on your desktop IM client when someone sends a message via your website. Even if they don’t send a message any person who comes across your website will be displayed as guest with unique name enabling you to initiate a chat. And if you are one of those users who don’t want, one more IM client in addition to yahoo, msn, google talk etc. I have good news for you; Pigdin support’s all these IM accounts and more.
