Google Knol Opens to Public

Postby jay » Thu Jul 24, 2008 11:49 am

In a move widely seen as the Silicon Valley behemoth's answer to Wikipedia, this week Google opened Knol, its own user-generated encyclopedia, to the public.

In a move widely seen as the Silicon Valley behemoth's answer to Wikipedia, this week Google opened Knol, its own user-generated encyclopedia, to the public.

Ad-supported Google Knol identifies authors and allows them to make money from ads that appear on the page.
Unlike Wikipedia, people who write entries on Google's encyclopedia are identified and could even earn a profit from their articles with ads. The more times the article is viewed, the more an author can get paid. Google, of course, gets a cut of the profits.

"The key principle behind Knol is authorship. Every knol will have an author (or group of authors) who put their name behind their content," the company wrote on its blog Wednesday. "It's their knol, their voice, their opinion. We expect that there will be multiple knols on the same subject, and we think that is good."

Knol has been operating on a trial basis with a company-selected, invite-only group of authors since December 2007.

"Our goal is to encourage people who know a particular subject to write an authoritative article about it," the company wrote on its blog in December. "We believe that knowing who wrote what will significantly help users make better use of Web content."

Google Fiber for Communities

Postby jackson » Wed Jul 14, 2010 11:06 pm

The Big G is experimenting with new ways to help make Internet access better and faster in trial locations in US. The aim is to build a network that provides atleast 100 times faster internet access for 50,000 to 5,00,000 people in the selected Locations in USA. I hope that soon big G will be serving all the Geographic locations soon in the near future. Thanks for the information rifa on Google Fibre.. For more info visit

But What I see in this google's new venture is that they are about to make their presence in the broadband connection/networking field also. Soon the search engine leader Google will be the threat the biggest broadband providers in US such as AT&T, Verizon and Comcast. But ultimately the customers are the people who is going to Benefit !!! :)

Keep Going Big G !! :D

Google tests a feature that allows you to in the same browser. Multiple sign-in only works for Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Reader, Google Docs, Google Sites and Google Code, but it's likely that other Google services will be added when this feature will be publicly available. Now no need to play with different browsers, big G is making us lazy

It seems like every day Google releases a new product or feature. The central place that tell you about most of these is through the official Google Blog Network, where you’ll find more than 100 blogs covering all kinds of products, policy issues, technical projects and much more. But if you want to keep up just with what’s new (or even just what Google does besides search), you’ll want to know about , the one place to find everthing new from Google !

Definitely we can contribute in improving the quality of the Google search listing by reporting the spam websites to the Big G. helps the users to report the spamy websites in the google search results.

Also official Google Chrome Addon ' also serves this purpose.

Re: What's new in google - Rich Snippets

Postby jay » Thu Jan 05, 2012 5:09 am

As a webmaster, you have a unique understanding of your web pages and the content they represent. Google helps users find your page by showing them a small sample of that content -- the "snippet." We use a variety of techniques to create these snippets and give users relevant information about what they'll find when they click through to visit your site. Today, we're announcing Rich Snippets, a new presentation of snippets that applies Google's algorithms to highlight structured data embedded in web pages.
