Flat design casts a long shadow

Postby RaJesh Balakrishnan » Thu Jul 04, 2013 10:05 am

Whilst many designers embrace flat design wholeheartedly, it seems a growing number have already tired of its charms and are casting around for the next big thing.

One contender, being championed by some, is “long shadow” design.

Long shadow design produces an effect like looking at an object late on a Winter’s day, when the shadows lengthen to dramatic proportions. The effect adds a great deal of depth while still retaining an essentially flat aesthetic.

IT certainly is a trend and is something we need to replicate! Clients depend on keeping up with the latest trends. The other half is managing the client so that they understand the thought process behind these decisions. Some clients may think FLAT design doesn't look very good. But the reality is that they just aren't used to seeing it. If the industry is moving that way then its best we communicate to them so that they understand that our design will ensure they don't look dated!

The comments in the thread posted were very interesting from a design point of view!

My 2 cents!

The number one thing that needs to be passed to the client regarding Flat design is how it can be effortlessly made responsive, How it is primarily CSS driven void images reducing load time and how it helps to keep the focus more uniform on the webpage
