Love this! Except for the bit about 301 redirects... can an SEO person counter this claim that it is a negative practice?

It's a tricky one. One one hand, Google may think you're screwing around by having so many pages redirecting. On the other hand, Google may think you're being helpful by telling it where to now look for the information. There's got to be a threshold in there somewhere.
