OutPhase IE6 ??? ARe you up for it????

Postby Prashant » Tue Sep 15, 2009 1:49 am

Well as a designer the most frustrating thing to do is browser compatability testing. And the biggest pain in teh ASS are always IE browsers.... adding to our woes is the fact that there are three of them out there now IE6,IE7, IE8. Personally i think its high time we started ignoring IE6.

Recently i came across an interesting site. Their main mssion "kill IE6". Sounds wierd, but the more you think about it the more you are up for the idea. And they also have offered some help. Insert a conditional check code and voila for anyperson who is till using IE6 a message appears to upgarde to latest browsers iether, Firefix 3.5, IE 8, Safari 4(hmmmmmm i still dont like it much), Google Chrome ( Personally i never want to use this). Anway just go throught the links below and shout out loud if you think we should get this integrated in our website projects.

Even for programmers IE6 gives a tough time !

Interestingly wordpress has come up with plug-ins against IE6.

This is something we should proceed with carefully. I know there are a couple of my clients that only use IE6 and have no plans on upgrading.

IE6, although cumbersome is still used, which means we still need to support it.

As % of IE As % of All Browsers
Internet Explorer 5 <0.03%
Internet Explorer 5.5 <0.03%
Internet Explorer 6 25.25%
Internet Explorer 7 21.10%
Internet Explorer 8 17.56%

While I hate IE6 and the trouble it causes, it's here to stay for quite some time yet.
