Hey Subin, Good to see you here.

I don't believe there is any SEO strategy. It's all speculation. We perform certain so called SEO tasks, in the hope that it might actually boost our site. There are many gurus out there pushing wrong concepts and Black Hat Techniques.

Here is a brief explanation, there are 2 techniques, White hat & Black hat SEO techniques.

White hat means straightforward, stuff. No keyword stuffing, no messing with bad stuff.
Black Hat is voodoo stuff :D . Stay away from these. These are ways to trick search engines. Many come up with new ones each day and then google usually is the first to notice them and then there's the Google Slap.
Google drops your site like a hot potato. Even Social media sites have slapped a lot of pages (means deleted, removed from index etc).

So what is a SEO strategy then?
There are some things which are good to perform for your website - http://risetothetop.techwyse.com/search ... -friendly/

Why should you perform these ?

There is Site A put up in a hurry (no SEO, no care for content & users)
Site B - well thought of, well designed, has basic SEO

Both Sites A & B cater to same niche, for example "Best Toys for Toddlers in 2009"

Which site is better ?

It's a no brainer, Site B.

Why ?
It has food for search engine spiders (SEO & good relevant content)
It has stickiness for visitors (good content, good deals, good look & more).

Subin, it’s an interesting topic.

Search Engines algorithm is the sole responsibility to rank a website for any search term. Search engines are working towards perfection to fine-tune the results by keep changing their algorithm.

Today's search engine algorithm may look like below.

Search term in URL - 50%
Search term presence in page title - 20%
Search term presence in h1 tags - 20%
Search terms presence in the content - 10%

The page which satisfies all above will be in first position for that particular search term. We can't able to know the actual algorithm of search engines as it’s very secret and keep changing. In every change of algorithm, we should predict the changes and try with trial and error method to get better position for our site.

OLD SEO TECHNIQUES WHICH ARE NOT IN USE NOW
Search terms in keyword Meta tag, door way pages, three way link building, reciprocal link building etc

NEW SEO TECHNIQUES
Solutions to fix duplication content, link baiting etc.

So always keep in touch with industry and get alerts and updates.

Thanks elan for the statistics.

Can you also tell us other factors which can directly or indirectly influence SEO such as loading time(optimized images, content and code), age of the domain etc, frequent content addition etc.

Ok Jay, let me list all the known factors.

Search term in URL
Search term presence in page title
Search term presence in h1 tags
Search terms presence in the content (proximity n frequency)
Search term in alt atribute of images
Search terms in title attribute of text links
Domain age (i don believe much on this as i see many new sites ranking at top for cometitive words..May be less weightage)
Internal back links with the anchor text as "search term"
Internal back links of the page
External back links with the anchor text as "search term"
External back links of the page
Relevant external back links
Frequency of accessing the webpage within your website by visitors
Less Bounce Rate (seems very important)
Bookmarked by visitors (social media strength)
Page size & Loading time
Frequency of content updation in site.
Analytics Data - Number of visitors/time stayed in page/activities done in that page.

Still many data can be included as its very wide topic. I am sure about all of these presences in algorithm and just the percentage varies for each in every algorithm change.

@Douglas: yes ofcourse Douglas, it does. You got the point. but 50% percentage is just a number given by me.
