Webmaster tools- Duplicate Meta Tags count: Is it serious??

Hi,

Back to ask you something about the metatag contents. The fact is known that the meta tags are not much significant now, but how serious it can affect our pages when the Webmaster tool counts duplicate meta tags for some pages.

Eventhough they says Meta tags are presently not a factor in ranking, indexing etc, can it be a part in counting duplication of contents.. Hope the factors are many than only meta tags in counting a page's authority.

YES, ITS VERY SERIOUS.

Pages with same content and metas may get into supplemental index. Make sure not to repeat same meta for different pages of a website. Google provided us this tool to check the meta duplication in webmaster tools. Make use of it.

The meta description still shows up in the google results pages.
And if they are not unique enough Google will just grab some random text from the on page content.

So, we lose a bit of control here
